FAQs

What issues do you work with?

I work with adults seeking support for trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, addiction, and major life transitions. My approach helps uncover and heal the emotional patterns and past experiences that keep people feeling stuck, so they can reconnect with clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of self.

What therapies or methods do you use?

My work integrates several evidence-based approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I tailor these methods to each person’s needs—combining structured, research-supported techniques with depth-oriented, trauma-informed care.

What does “trauma-informed” therapy mean?

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences—especially those involving fear, shame, or loss of control—can shape emotions, relationships, and self-beliefs. Rather than just focusing on symptoms, I help clients process the underlying experiences stored in both mind and body, fostering integration, resilience, and a renewed sense of safety.

Do you work with couples or families?

My practice primarily focuses on individual therapy with adults. I also offer couples and family therapy when there is a strong clinical fit with my areas of expertise.

Do you offer in-person or online sessions?

Both. I offer in-person therapy in Berkeley and secure telehealth sessions for clients anywhere in California. Many clients choose a mix of both formats, depending on their schedule and comfort.

How often do sessions take place, and how long do they last?

Most clients begin with weekly 45-minute sessions. Some start with or transition to a biweekly cadence, or as-needed as progress develops. Frequency and pacing are customized to your goals, treatment plan, and stage of therapy.

How long will therapy take?

Therapy length varies based on your goals and the depth of what you’d like to address. In my practice, the focus is on having clearly defined goals and a structured process that allows you to see tangible, measurable progress along the way. Some clients achieve meaningful change within a few months, while others choose to continue longer to deepen their work once those goals are being met. We’ll collaborate early on to set a clear direction and ensure the pace and duration of therapy fit your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance. However, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your PPO insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. Please contact your insurance provider directly before starting therapy to confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits.

What are your fees and what payment methods do you accept?

My base fee is $375 per 45-minute individual session and $450 per 50-minute couple or family session, with extended sessions prorated accordingly. I accept Zelle, Venmo, Apple Cash, cash, check, and credit/debit card (including HSA/FSA cards). My fees reflect work as a specialist, advanced training at Columbia University, and extensive experience providing high-quality, individualized psychotherapy in the Bay Area.

How do I get started?

You can start by requesting a free 15-minute consultation. This short call helps us determine whether my approach fits your needs and allows you to ask any questions before scheduling an initial session.

Where is your office located?

My office is conveniently located at 2991 Shattuck Ave, near Ashby BART in central Berkeley, with easy access from Oakland and San Francisco.

Do you work with clients outside the Bay Area?

Yes. I’m licensed in California and provide online therapy statewide, serving clients from San Diego to Sacramento. Sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

What can I expect in the first session?

Your first session focuses on understanding what brings you to therapy, what’s been most challenging, and what you hope to change. We’ll talk about relevant background, current stressors, and how therapy can be structured to fit your needs. Many people leave their first session feeling relief simply from being understood and having a plan.

How confidential is therapy?

Your privacy is protected by law and by professional ethics. Everything shared in therapy remains confidential, with only a few legal exceptions (such as immediate safety concerns). I use secure systems for scheduling, communication, and telehealth to ensure your information stays private.

What makes your approach unique?

My work combines clinical depth with practical structure—helping clients process the root causes of suffering while building concrete skills for emotional balance. With a PhD from Columbia University and extensive trauma-informed training, I bring both academic rigor and a deeply human perspective to the therapy process.

Do you offer reduced-fee sessions?

A limited number of reduced-fee spots may be available based on financial need. If cost is a concern, I can also refer you to trusted colleagues or community resources that offer lower-fee options.

What kinds of clients benefit most from your approach?

Clients who are motivated for self-understanding, open to emotional exploration, and ready to engage deeply in the process tend to benefit most. Many are high-functioning professionals, creatives, or caregivers who feel stuck in repeating patterns and want to move toward greater freedom and authenticity.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a psychologist, I do not prescribe medication. If medication could be helpful, I can collaborate with your psychiatrist, primary-care provider, or refer you to a trusted prescribing clinician.

What are your hours?

I see clients Tuesday through Friday from 8 AM to 6:30 PM, both in person and online.

Do you work with trauma survivors or PTSD?

Yes. Much of my practice focuses on complex trauma (C-PTSD) and the lasting emotional effects of difficult life experiences. I use EMDR, IFS, and body-based trauma therapies to help clients process and integrate these experiences safely and effectively.

Can therapy really help me if I’ve tried before?

Many clients come to me after previous therapies that helped only partly or felt too surface-level. My integrative approach is designed to reach the deeper roots of patterns—working not just on insight, but on transforming how you experience yourself emotionally and physiologically. Healing is always possible with the right approach and timing.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations require at least 48 hours’ notice or two business days (discounting weekends). Late cancellations or missed appointments are charged the full session fee, as that time is reserved specifically for you.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Finding the right fit is one of the most important parts of therapy. A brief consultation allows us to get a sense of whether my style and methods feel right for you. If I believe another clinician might be a better match, I’ll gladly offer referrals.
